Niagara, ON (August 6, 2010) - The partners and staff of Durward Jones Barkwell & Company LLP have rallied together to support healthcare in the Niagara Region, making a generous $100,000 donation to the Niagara Health System It’s Our Time Campaign.

The company’s donation is a joint effort between the Niagara resident partners and senior staff and the Firm; a collective force that will make a difference to the future of healthcare in Niagara.  “We recognize that we can accomplish far more by working together than any of us can achieve working independent of one another,” says Rob Neill, Durward Jones Barkwell Managing Partner and Chair of the South Niagara Cabinet of the It’s Our Time Campaign.

The firm’s donation will be directed to the development of new regional health-care services at the future Healthcare Complex and Walker Family Cancer Centre, currently under construction in west St. Catharines.  Opening in early 2013, the facility will offer regional services not currently available in Niagara, including cancer radiation therapy, cardiac catheterization, and longer-term mental health care, as well as expanded dialysis services.

“We are proud to support these important healthcare initiatives to enable access to the highest quality of medical care for patients – right here in the Niagara," says Neill.  “Having these services available close to home will benefit thousands of patients and their families who will no longer have to leave Niagara for treatment.”

In recognition of this gift, the Gymnasium in Respiratory Services at the new Healthcare Complex will be named in honour of Durward Jones Barkwell & Company LLP.

With offices located throughout the Niagara Region, as well as Hamilton and Burlington, Durward Jones Barkwell & Company LLP has been providing accounting services to clients since 1940.  As a community-minded organization since its inception, DJB partners, managers and staff partake in a variety of community events and fundraising initiatives to support the communities in which they do business.

Debbie Sevenpifer, NHS President & CEO, appreciates the investment by the accounting firm in new regional healthcare services.  "We are truly grateful to Durward Jones Barkwell for their generous contribution to the betterment of healthcare for all our communities," Sevenpifer said.  “Through donations such as this, and sharing in our vision for top-quality healthcare, the Niagara business community makes a significant impact on the future health of our region,” said Sevenpifer.
